Hi! I write books!

🎉100 Copies Sold!!🎉

Published over 1 year ago • 2 min read

Remember that thing in the last newsletter where I said I was on track to finish NaNo in a timely manner?

I lied. I was on track WHEN I WROTE THE EMAIL. Then the resident 10yo proceeded to start a merry go round of NEW sickness that’s taking its time cycling through the seven of us, who have al already been on a merrygo round other sickness for like… two months now???

(Kids, man. Walking petri dishes of disease. I miss the mask mandates.)

Anyway, I did NOT lie about the whole “I’ve almost sold 100 copies of This Great Wilderness and when I do I’ll do a giveaway” thing. I hit that goal several days ago! I am so pleased. Keep reading for more on that!

First I have to tell you about this amazing book I just read called The Ship of Dreams: Titanic and the End of the Edwardian Era.

I've been obsessed with the Titanic since I was almost 8 and my mom brought home Exploring the Titanic from the library for me. I loved it so much that she bought me a copy of my own despite us being broke, and over the years I continued to be interested.

Around the time the movie came out, we went nuts with the Titanic books and got SO many via interlibrary loan, and I learned a lot.

But It's Been 24 Years, and I've forgotten a lot, and this book really was a great refresher as well as busting several enduring myths that James Cameron's movie, alas, perpetuates.

Here's a Twitter thread that I made as I watched the movie again, if you want to click through and be (possibly) entertained:

Other Book News:

The ebook versions of Ripples and The War in Our Hearts are now only available through Amazon, on Kindle Unlimited. If you want to buy them, Ripples is still 99 cents and The War in Our Hearts has been reduced to $2.99.

My reasoning behind this decision is that they’re not exactly selling a lot of copies, and I need that batch of ISBNs I keep muttering darkly about, so I’m hopeful it will make those two a bit more profitable. The paperbacks and audiobooks of all my books are still available everywhere, though, and nothing is changing with This Great Wilderness or The Summer I Found Home for the time being.

Okay, the giveaway!

I want to celebrate!

The winners will receive their choice of either…

•an annotated copy of one of my books (their choice among The War in Our Hearts, The Summer I Found Home, or This Great Wilderness) (and yes, the winner will get to decide if I write in the book or use post-its, I know there are OPINIONS in the book community about this and never the twain shall meet)

OR

•a knitted or crocheted thing (to be negotiated! Scarf, hat, stuffed animal, gloves, we’ll figure it out; the single caveat is I will only be using yarn I already have)

How to enter? Just reply to this email and tell me which prize you'd pick!

If you'd like more entries, you can go also enter on other platforms:

I’m going to choose two winners on New Year’s Eve, and I have to limit this to the US only because international shipping costs are nuts. (Sorry, foreign friends, I love you too! I’m just broke!)

Good luck!

And thank you so much for your love and support. People like you are why I was able to hit this milestone, and why I keep writing books. <3

In case I don't send out another newsletter before Christmas, I hope you have a great holiday, whatever you celebrate or don't.

Until next time,

Eva

First of all: Thank you so much to everyone who downloaded élégie when it released on the 1st! There were 23 total downloads which, for me, was an astronomical amount. It's still free if you have Kindle Unlimited (as are Ripples and The War in Our Hearts). Please enjoy this doodle of Lydia at the opening of élégie that I have not posted anywhere else I've been teaching myself to cross-stitch. That is, I technically have always known HOW, but have struggled to master it enough to finish any...
